At Donnie's Homespun Pizza, owner Neill Dresen knew he was taking a risk by choosing to stock craft beer instead of mass-produced brews. He felt the individuality and flavors of these beers worked better with the kind of ambience he was trying to create and had faith in his customers to experiment and expand their tastes. "Craft beers," loosely defined as traditionally brewed beers made without adjuncts such as rice or corn and with a focus on flavor instead of mass appeal, are a passion Dresen was determined to bring to Decatur, regardless of the cost. "Carrying a bunch of craft beer and not carrying Bud or Miller, that's a huge risk," Dresen said. "I could have adapted to be like every other place, but I chose not to."
